By now, you’ve probably seen the buzz around the new Studio Ghibli AI filter — a viral creation from OpenAI that’s taken over social media and inspired countless AI-generated images in Ghibli’s signature style. While opinions remain divided, the trend has reignited global interest in the beloved Japanese animation studio — and just in time.
Singapore is set to welcome a musical celebration of Studio Ghibli’s legacy this June, as The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI – Original Singers Symphony makes its way to The Star Theatre for a one-night-only performance.
Renowned for its whimsical art and emotionally rich storytelling, Studio Ghibli also boasts a timeless musical catalogue. Fans will soon get to experience these beloved soundtracks live — not just played by an orchestra, but performed by the original singers behind the studio’s most iconic themes.
The concert will showcase music from Ghibli classics such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke, brought to life by their original artists such as Yoshikazu Mera, Sumi Shimamoto, Azumi Inoue, and Yuyu.
These artists will be accompanied by the Tokyo Asia Orchestra, a 17-member ensemble conducted by Takeshi Hashima, promising a rich, immersive musical journey through the world of Ghibli.
The Music of STUDIO GHIBLI – Original Singers Symphony will be staged in Singapore on Wednesday, 11 June, at 8PM at The Star Theatre. While tickets aren't on sale yet, fans can stay updated via the official concert page.
The tour is currently making stops in Hong Kong and Macau, and will head to Jakarta on 8 June before arriving in Singapore.
For those craving even more Ghibli magic, don’t miss Joe Hisaishi's “The Harp, Heron and Firebird” concert, happening on 3–4 July at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Conducted by the maestro himself and performed by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the performance will include music from The Boy and the Heron, Hisaishi’s Harp Concerto, and orchestral works by composers like Igor Stravinsky and Arturo Márquez.
