Solana's Pump.fun Faces Legal Action Over IP Violations from Law Firms

Law Firms Target Memecoin Platform for Alleged IP Violations
Burwick Law and Wolf Popper LLP have issued a cease and desist letter against Pump.fun, a Solana-based platform that enables users to create meme coins.
The two law firms claim that tokens launched on the site are impersonating their names and logos, which they say constitutes a violation of intellectual property rights.
Memecoin "DOGSHIT2" Sparks Legal Concerns
At the heart of the controversy is the memecoin named "DOGSHIT2," which has seen a sharp rise in value, up almost 200% according to CoinGecko data.
Despite its playful name, the token has become a focal point of legal action, with the law firms alleging that the token was created using their likeness without their consent.
Burwick Law Responds to Unauthorised Use
Burwick Law made their position clear in a post on X, stating:
"Our firms have no affiliation, endorsement, or ownership interest in the Dogshit2 token or any related assets. Simply put, our firms have not launched any memecoins onchain."
They further emphasised that Pump.fun was behind the creation of tokens that, according to the firms, were designed to "intimidate our clients and interfere with ongoing litigation."
The firm argued that this use of blockchain technology was aimed at disrupting justice and due process.
Pump.fun Under Legal Fire for Enabling Token Deployments
The cease and desist letter sent to Pump.fun also includes a demand for the immediate removal of the DOGSHIT2 token, along with other memecoins allegedly designed to impersonate the law firms and their partners.
The law firms argue that Pump.fun has allowed these tokens to be deployed on its platform despite having the technical ability to remove them.
This, they claim, not only violates their intellectual property rights but also exposes investors to deceptive market practices.
Hundreds of Tokens Linked to Legal Firms and Their Partners
To date, users of Pump.fun have launched hundreds of tokens, some bearing the names of Burwick Law, Wolf Popper LLP, and even Max Burwick, Burwick Law’s managing partner.
The firms’ lawyers insist that the memecoins were not authorised and pose a significant threat to their clients, potentially undermining their ongoing litigation efforts.
Ongoing Legal Pressure on Memecoin Factory
Pump.fun continues to face legal challenges as these firms push for action.
The platform’s role in the deployment of these tokens is under scrutiny, with concerns over the ease of creating such tokens on the platform and their potential for misuse.
Despite the legal pressure, Pump.fun has yet to respond to the demands made in the cease and desist letter.
