OpenAI Offers ChatGPT To U.S. Government For Just $1
In a major move to expand its public sector presence, OpenAI has announced it will provide its ChatGPT to the U.S. federal agencies for just $1 over the next year.
This initiative marks a significant step in OpenAI’s broader strategy to strengthen relationships with lawmakers, regulators, and government agencies.
The offer will grant participating federal departments access to OpenAI’s cutting-edge language models, including premium features such as Advanced Voice Mode—the latter available for an extended 60-day trial.
According to OpenAI, the goal is to enhance the efficiency and reliability of government services by embedding AI capabilities across the executive branch workforce at virtually no cost.
The program is being rolled out in partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).
“Helping government work better—making services faster, easier, and more reliable—is a key way to bring the benefits of AI to everyone.”
The announcement comes on the heels of OpenAI launching “OpenAI for Government” in June, a dedicated product offering tailored to federal agencies.
That same month, the company secured a Department of Defense contract worth up to $200 million, further cementing its role in the public sector AI race.
In addition to the $1 government offering, OpenAI plans to open its first Washington, D.C. office early next year as part of its increasing political outreach.
Meanwhile, OpenAI continues to attract substantial investor interest. The company is reportedly in discussions for a new stock sale at a staggering $500 billion valuation, following its record-setting $40 billion fundraising round in March—the largest private capital raise in tech history.
