Elon Musk Gets A Back Eye From His Son
Elon Musk made a memorable appearance at a White House event on May 30, 2025, officially marking his departure from his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, affectionately known as DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).
But it wasn’t just his exit that drew attention—Musk arrived sporting a notably bruised right eye, prompting inevitable questions from the assembled press.
When asked about his injury by a Reuters reporter, Musk responded with characteristic humor, quipping, “Well, I wasn’t anywhere near France.”
The remark drew reference from the viral video showing French President Emmanuel Macron being playfully shoved by his wife, Brigitte Macron.
Musk then revealed the true story behind his black eye: a playful wrestling session with his son, X Æ A-Xii. “I told X to go ahead, punch me in the face, and he did.”
He added that while the punch didn’t hurt much at the time, it eventually led to the visible bruise.
President Trump, standing nearby, chimed in with his own thoughts on the incident.
“That was X that did that? X could do it. If you knew X, [he] could do it,”
Trump added that he hadn’t noticed the bruise before.
Musk Ends Officially Exits DOGE
Musk’s departure comes exactly 130 days after Trump took office, the maximum period allowed under his status as a “special government employee.”
Though his formal cost-cutting role in the administration has ended, Musk leaves behind a legacy of sweeping reforms.
During his tenure, Doge aggressively targeted inefficiencies across multiple government agencies and dramatically scaled back programs run by USAID, the main U.S. foreign aid organization.
Despite the farewell, Trump emphasized that Musk isn’t truly leaving the White House. Trump reassures that Musk will continue to return to the White House from time to time to continue with his work at DOGE.
Trump even referred to DOGE as Musk's "baby". The event unfolded just days after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill in an interview with CBS News.
During the interview, Musk expressed disappointment that the legislation, which featured multi-trillion dollar tax breaks and increased defense spending, claiming the legislature will raise America's debt deficit instead of decreasing it.
Musk's exit also comes at a time when Tesla is facing the brunt of the backlash from Musk's polarizing political run, causing the shares of Tesla to drop and a wide protest and acts of violece in Tesla showrooms nationwide.
The Wall Street Journal even reported that at one point Tesla even wanted to give up on Musk and was searching for a potential successor to Musk, though both Tesla and Musk have denied the claims.
At the White House event, Trump praised Musk’s dedication, saying he had “worked tirelessly, helping lead the most sweeping and consequential government reform programs in generations.”
As Musk steps away from his official government role, his influence—and the occasional bruise—remain impossible to ignore.
