According to Cointelegraph, shares of several cryptocurrency mining companies experienced significant gains following the disclosure of substantial investments by trading firm Jane Street. The firm revealed its passive trading positions in Bitfarms, Cipher Mining, and Hut 8, owning approximately 5.4%, 5%, and 5% of each company, respectively. This announcement led to a notable rally in the stocks of these companies, with increases ranging from 8% to 13% on Thursday, continuing into Friday. By the close of the market on Friday, Bitfarms (BITF) saw a rise of 10.68%, Cipher Mining (CIFR) surged by 19.73%, and Hut 8 (HUT) increased by approximately 17.27%, as reported by Yahoo Finance. Other Bitcoin mining stocks also benefited from the positive sentiment, with American Bitcoin Corp. climbing 11.29%, IREN Limited up 12.60%, and Hive Digital Technologies advancing 17.77%. Jane Street, known for its proprietary trading and market-making activities in equities and digital assets, initially disclosed its involvement with Bitcoin miners in 2023 through investments in Marathon Digital (MARA). The recent disclosure by Jane Street follows Google's acquisition of a 5.4% stake in Cipher Mining on September 25. The Bitcoin mining sector, crucial for maintaining the network's functionality and security, involves using specialized computers to solve complex mathematical problems.
