According to PANews, a recent alert has been issued by SlowMist CISO 23pds regarding a new type of cryptocurrency scam involving fake cold wallet giveaways. Scammers are impersonating official accounts on the X platform, claiming to offer free Ledger cold wallets. These fraudsters send out seemingly genuine, sealed devices to lure users into a false sense of security. The real danger often lies within the device itself or the accompanying 'initialization guide,' which may be tampered with or designed to trick users into revealing their mnemonic phrases through social engineering tactics.
