Solo Bitcoin Miner Achieves Rare Success with Minimal Computational Power

According to Cointelegraph, a solo Bitcoin miner achieved a remarkable feat on Friday by earning 3.146 BTC, valued at approximately $266,000, after solving block 924,569. This was accomplished with a significantly lower computational power than typically required for such a reward. The miner, reportedly using a hobby-grade machine, managed this success with a hash rate of about 1.2 terahashes per second (TH/s), a stark contrast to the industrial-scale operations that usually operate at exahashes per second. CKpool creator Con Kolivas shared the news on X, highlighting the miner's extraordinary luck and the improbability of the event. Kolivas estimated the odds of this occurrence at about 1.2 million to one per day, given the miner's hash rate. The miner's reward comprised 3.125 Bitcoin (BTC) from the block subsidy and an additional 0.021 BTC from transaction fees, totaling just over 3.146 BTC, as confirmed by onchain data. Despite the dominance of industrial mining operations, 2025 has proven to be a notable year for solo miners. Mempool Space reports that 13 solo-mined blocks have been discovered through CKpool this year, averaging slightly more than one per month. In a similar instance last month, a solo Bitcoin miner earned a $347,455 reward after independently solving block 920,440, receiving 3.125 BTC plus fees. Earlier in July, another miner with just 2.3 petahashes of power claimed a full block reward, with similar successes recorded in June, March, and February. In the broader mining industry, major players are exploring new revenue streams beyond Bitcoin mining, particularly following the latest halving that has tightened profit margins. CleanSpark has initiated a shift towards AI-focused data center infrastructure, a move that resulted in a 13% increase in its stock after the expansion was announced in October. Similarly, TeraWulf plans to raise $500 million through a convertible note offering to finance the construction of a new data center campus in Abernathy, Texas. These strategic pivots indicate a growing trend among Bitcoin miners to diversify their operations and adapt to changing market conditions.
