XRP Stands Out as Bitcoin and Ethereum Sentiment Turns Deeply Bearish

While the broader crypto market sinks deeper into pessimism, XRP is emerging as a rare sentiment outlier, showing signs of resilience even as traders turn sharply bearish on Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Social media data from analytics firm Santiment shows that XRP is maintaining a notably more optimistic outlook than its larger rivals, despite the ongoing market slump that has dragged Bitcoin toward $70,000 and pushed Ethereum lower alongside it.

Santiment’s Positive/Negative sentiment ratio currently places XRP at 2.19, more than double Ethereum’s 1.08 and nearly triple Bitcoin’s 0.80, highlighting a striking divergence in trader psychology.

What makes the trend more unusual is that XRP’s price performance has not been stronger. Over the past seven days, XRP has fallen 6.82%, underperforming both Bitcoin and Ethereum, which dropped roughly 5% each over the same period.

Yet sentiment around XRP has remained comparatively constructive, suggesting that optimism is being driven less by short-term price action and more by conviction among its holder base. Despite XRP still being down 35.5% over the past 30 days, many holders appear less inclined to abandon positions during periods of stress.

That dynamic, according to Swyftx lead analyst Pav Hundal, reflects the mindset of XRP traders, arguing the XRP holders have an unwavering faith in the assets fundamentals.

"XRP doesn't move wildly outside the bounds of the rest of the market. "

2026 Is A year Of Crypto Winter

The contrast comes as the overall crypto landscape slides into extreme fear. Alternative.me’s Crypto Fear & Greed Index has dropped to 12, its lowest reading since mid-December, signaling widespread anxiety among retail participants.

Other indicators points to the same caution, with CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index sits at 32 out of 100, firmly in “Bitcoin Season,” reflecting investors’ retreat toward perceived safety and away from higher-risk assets.

Santiment suggests that this level of pessimism may itself become a catalyst. Historically, periods when small traders show broad disbelief in crypto have preceded short-term relief rallies, as sentiment becomes overly one-sided. In that context, XRP’s relative optimism could position it as a potential early beneficiary if risk appetite begins to recover.

The backdrop remains grim, however. Bitwise, CIO Matt Hougan speculates that we might have already weathered past the worst part of the winter.

"We have been in a crypto winter since January 2025. Chances are, we're closer to the end than the beginning."

Against that backdrop, XRP’s ability to maintain comparatively positive sentiment stands out as an anomaly in an otherwise frozen market. Whether that optimism translates into price performance remains uncertain, but in a landscape dominated by fear, XRP is currently one of the few assets where traders appear willing to look past the downturn and bet on a rebound.
