On November 2nd, in a podcast episode, Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted a radical future: in the next 5-6 years, traditional mobile phones and apps will disappear, and most of the content consumed by humans will be generated by AI.
... Musk believes that "in the future, there will be no operating system, no apps. Your phone will just display pixels and emit sound. It will predict what you most want to see and hear, and then generate it in real time. We will integrate AI into this device as much as possible." He further states, "There will no longer be traditional mobile phones. What we call mobile phones will actually be edge nodes for AI inference, equipped with some wireless modules for connectivity." Musk argues that, essentially, server-side AI will communicate with AI on user devices (formerly known as mobile phones) and generate any real-time video the user wants. Regarding the replacement of human jobs by AI, Musk provided a countdown timeline: some desktop jobs such as email processing and telephone customer service are rapidly disappearing, while jobs like programming and content creation will likely be largely replaced within 1-2 years. Jobs like driving and logistics will rapidly transform after autonomous driving matures. AI is still digital; moving atoms is far more difficult than moving bits. Therefore, physical labor such as welding, plumbing, electrical work, and cooking will exist longer, but will eventually be replaced by robots. In the 3-hour podcast, Musk also discussed Grok's pursuit of truth, the exponential evolution of AI-generated content, and how AI security can protect human civilization. Musk believes that Grok is an AI that treats all human life equally. The team has invested enormous effort in combating biased information online, and it is through considerable effort that the AI has been able to "tell the truth" and avoid having its factual judgments distorted by "political correctness." He predicts that AI will surpass the intelligence of a single human being by 2026 and the combined intelligence of all humanity by 2030. This transformation is not science fiction, but a "civilization reshaping plan" being vigorously promoted by Musk's Neuralink, xAI, and other projects. Tesla plans to complete and demonstrate a functional flying car prototype within weeks before the end of 2025. Musk claims this demonstration is extraordinary and could even become "the most memorable launch event" in history. The timeframe is extremely tight, but he insists Tesla has a "realistic chance" of completing the task on time. Musk also imagines, "We live on a planet where gravity just allows us to leave Earth—like a video game set at the highest difficulty level, but not impossible." Now, we are facing the most critical juncture in this "game": either achieve unprecedented wealth through AI and technology, or face civilizational collapse amidst ideology and lies.
