On the morning of December 18th, a Japanese company dealing in cryptocurrency and designer handbags was robbed in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, suffering a loss of 1 billion yen, approximately HK$50 million. Four knife-wielding robbers stole four suitcases containing cash. The victim was a 39-year-old man from mainland China. Hong Kong police have arrested 15 suspects, including the mastermind, some of whom have triad backgrounds. Seven people have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. The victim originally planned to exchange his Japanese business revenue for cryptocurrency and Hong Kong dollars through a money exchange in Hong Kong. The whereabouts of the stolen money are still being investigated.
