U.S. Justice Department asks court to extend stay of Trump tariff ruling

The U.S. Justice Department on Monday asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to extend a stay of a lower court ruling on May 28 that invalidated the tariffs. The government said the ruling undermined the president's ability to conduct foreign policy. The Federal Circuit can now rule at any time whether to suspend the order during the appeals process, which could take months. The administration also said it would appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court if the appeals court lifts the current stay.
