OpenAI announced that CEO Sam Altman has returned to the company’s board of directors.
OpenAI said an investigation by law firm WilmerHale into the brief firing of Sam Altman last November found that his conduct at the time was not sufficient to warrant his removal. Instead, WilmerHale found that Sam Altman was fired because of a "broken relationship and loss of trust between the previous board and Sam Altman." Additionally, the previous board acted too quickly, without notifying key stakeholders in advance, conducting a full investigation, and giving Altman an opportunity to resolve the issue.
