Optimism announced that it will suspend ETH withdrawal services for one hour on February 15th in order to test its upgraded incident response system. This test will affect ETH withdrawals from Layer 2 to the Ethereum main network, but will not affect deposits from the main network to Layer 2 and normal transactions on the network. The goal of this upgrade is to improve the coordinated response capabilities of different chains in the Optimism ecosystem when security incidents occur.
The new incident response system will support the ability to suspend Ethereum withdrawals on the chain, and has added a new feature that allows the suspension of token and NFT withdrawals within the scope of the Superchain, applicable to opt-in Optimism and Optimism-based chains. When OPLabs announced the upgraded system on January 25, it stated that the upgrade was not only to enhance the security of individual chains, but also to leverage the collective security intelligence of the entire Superchain.
