According to Foresight News, Meta's 2023 Q4 financial results reveal that its metaverse division, Reality Labs, suffered a loss of $46.5 billion while generating nearly $11 billion in revenue. This marks the largest quarterly operating loss for the division since Q4 2020 when Meta first included Reality Labs' financial data in its reports. In 2023, Reality Labs' total revenue was just under $19 billion, with over half of the revenue coming from Q4 when it released the Meta Quest 3 VR headset.
The total operating loss for 2023 was $161 billion, a 17.5% increase compared to the previous year. Meta's founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, attributed Reality Labs' revenue to the strong start of its Quest 3 headset, which was launched on October 10, 2023. Additionally, he stated that the company's artificial intelligence and metaverse gaming are key parts of its long-term vision, and Meta will continue to invest in these two areas.
