Odaily Planet Daily News According to the announcement filed this month, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) seized nearly $400,000 worth of cryptocurrency from Binance accounts related to US residents in May this year.
Between May 2 and 23, the FBI seized approximately $397,221 worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum from six Binance accounts. Account holders are located in California, Massachusetts and Virginia. The FBI's notice said the assets were being seized "in violation of federal law."
US residents have been banned from using Binance since 2019. The FBI’s announcement shows that in May of this year, the agency also seized encrypted assets from the accounts of other exchanges, including about $30,000 from the Bybit account and $16,000 from the Freewallet account.
A spokesperson for Binance said, “Binance actively cooperates with law enforcement agencies around the world — including identifying funds related to criminal activity — to help stop bad actors.” (Blockworks)
