According to Axios, the U.S. House is set to vote as soon as Tuesday on a four-page resolution that condemns socialism and also calls for enactment of the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections. House Democrats, including Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, said Republicans are using the measure as a political trap because most Democrats oppose the SAVE America Act, while centrist Democrats such as Reps. Hillary Scholten, Tom Suozzi, Jared Moskowitz, Scott Peters and Brad Schneider said they could support a clean anti-socialism resolution but not one tied to the voter ID bill. The House Rules Committee declined to take up an amendment that would have removed the SAVE Act language, and retiring Rep. Jared Golden said he will probably vote for the resolution despite the reference to the bill.
