A senior Iranian official called the US 14-point proposal "unrealistic" and emphasized that negotiations must include "tangible interests."

Mohsen Rezaei, a longtime advisor to Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, stated that Iran will not allow the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz with "an unrealistic plan" and then withdraw from the war "without paying any compensation for all the damage caused to Iran." This statement was in response to the 14-point proposal submitted to Iran by Washington through negotiators. Rezaei emphasized that for negotiations between Iran and the United States to yield satisfactory results, they must include "tangible benefits," not the kind of "showy gestures" the United States is trying to offer. He said that even if the United States withdraws its troops from the region, Iran will still demand its rights and war reparations.
