An anonymous crypto whale residing in Puerto Rico has sued Coinbase, accusing it of refusing to return funds stolen in a 2024 hack. The case bears striking similarities to a $55 million DAI theft in August 2024. The plaintiff claims that after being targeted by a phishing attack, he hired multiple on-chain investigation firms to trace the flow of funds, ultimately pinpointing a Coinbase account. Lawsuit documents show that Coinbase confirmed in early December 2024 that it had frozen the funds pending investigation, but has yet to return them, stating that a court order is required to release the assets.
