The American Innovation Project (AIP) has announced the addition of two new policy researchers, including Jacob Smagula, who has a background in the cryptocurrency industry. According to ChainCatcher, Smagula will join Congressman Ritchie Torres' team to work on legislation related to digital assets.
Smagula previously worked in the government affairs team at Bitcoin mining company MARA and is currently involved in policy research at the DeFi Education Fund. His experience in the crypto industry and regulatory communication is expected to contribute to the legislative efforts.
Founded in 2025, AIP aims to provide U.S. Congress members with expertise and policy support on emerging technologies such as AI and digital assets. The appointment of Smagula is seen as a step towards further professionalization of U.S. efforts in crypto legislation and regulation.
