Solana Foundation has detailed its progress in preparing for quantum computing threats. According to Foresight News, the foundation's two main validator client development teams, Anza and Firedancer, have independently concluded that the post-quantum digital signature scheme Falcon is the preferred migration path. Both teams have completed initial implementations, with the code publicly available on their respective GitHub repositories. Additionally, Blueshift's Solana Winternitz Vault has been deployed for over two years and is one of the few quantum-resistant primitives in mainstream blockchain use, having been cited in Google's quantum AI white paper earlier this year.
The Solana Foundation stated that while quantum computing poses a substantial threat, it will take several years to materialize. There is no immediate need for migration, but research, infrastructure, and ecosystem coordination are ready to enable a swift transition when necessary. The foundation anticipates that this will not significantly impact network performance.
