Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reiterated on Wednesday that Gulf Arab states still face the risk of having their undersea data cables in the Strait of Hormuz severed. Tasnim reported that "if multiple major cables are damaged simultaneously, whether due to accident or sabotage, it could trigger a serious internet outage in the Persian Gulf." Several cables cross the Strait of Hormuz. The Gulf region has previously experienced internet outages due to repeated cuts to undersea cables in the Red Sea. The Houthi rebels in Yemen have also previously issued threats regarding these cables. (Associated Press)
