Iran Adopts Unconventional Oil Storage Amid U.S. Port Blockade

Iran is facing challenges in exporting oil due to a U.S. blockade on its ports, which has prevented the country from shipping oil to customers and left tankers unable to dock for loading. According to Odaily, this situation has led to a buildup of oil inventories. To prevent the shutdown of some oil fields, Iran has started storing oil on floating tankers. Current and former Iranian officials have revealed that the country, heavily reliant on oil exports for revenue, is now employing previously unused methods to conserve storage space. These officials noted that Iranian authorities are utilizing containers and makeshift storage facilities, including dilapidated and abandoned tanks, in the southern oil hubs of Ahvaz and Asaluyeh to store oil.
