Japan's Central Bank Likely to Raise Interest Rates, UBS Economist Predicts

According to BlockBeats, UBS Global Research's Chief Japan Economist Masamichi Adachi has indicated that an interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan in the coming months appears justified. Adachi noted that Japan's real interest rates are currently negative, creating a highly accommodative financial environment. Inflation dynamics suggest that the central bank should consider reducing its easing policies, as long-term inflation expectations are anticipated to rise steadily towards 2.0%. Additionally, Adachi expects the government to pursue fiscal expansion, which could lead to increased inflationary pressures. UBS forecasts that the Bank of Japan will raise its policy rate by 25 basis points in January, although a rate hike in December is not ruled out.
