Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg provided new insights into the company's ambitious AI strategy during a company-wide meeting on Thursday, according to Jin10, citing The Wall Street Journal. He addressed the market's negative reaction to Meta's first-quarter performance, attributing the 8% drop in Meta's stock price to investor concerns over increased capital expenditure forecasts and the company's warning of slower growth in the second quarter. Zuckerberg noted a shift in Meta's advertising business trajectory following the U.S. conflict with Iran in late February. He explained, "If oil prices rise, consumers tend to spend more on oil and gasoline, reducing expenditure on non-essential items, which are typically the focus of advertising." He linked next month's planned layoffs to the need for increased investment in data centers and other AI infrastructure. Zuckerberg stated, "The company essentially has two cost centers: computing and infrastructure, and personnel. If we allocate more funds to one area to serve our community, it means less capital is available for the other. Therefore, we need to moderately reduce the company's size."
