Remarks On Colombia After Maduro’s Arrest
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to launch a war with Colombia after the recent capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
In comments made Jan. 4 and captured in an audio recording aboard Air Force One, Trump described Colombia as being run by a very sick
"Colombia is very sick, too, run by a sick man, who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States and he's not going to be doing it very long."
Trump's statement was a response to a reporter who questioned if Trump would use a military action against Colombia, which Trump said "sounds good to me."
The remarks came just days ahead of Maduro’s first court appearance in New York, where the Venezuelan leader is expected to face drug trafficking and narco-terrorism charges tied to long-running U.S. allegations against his regime.
Criticism Of Mexico And Prediction Of Cuba's Fall
In the statement, Trump also criticized Mexico, warning that the country “has to get their act together” as drugs continue to flow into the U.S. through its southern border and we're going to do something, as quoted by CNN.
Trump also claimed that he had offered U.S. troops to assist Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on multiple occasions, but said she was “a little afraid” to accept the proposal.
Trump also predicted the collapse of Cuba following the recent fate of Venezuela, saying
"No, Cube is going to fall of its own volition. Cuba is doing very poorly."
He reiterated that Cuba remains heavily dependent on Venezuela, adding that Cuban personnel were killed during the raid that captured Maduro because they were protecting him — a decision Trump described as “not a good move.”
